On July 7, Oglethorpe welcomed 114 incoming students for the second summer orientation, known as a MAP (Making a Petrel) Day. The first-year students enrolled in their fall semester classes and received their official Petrel Pass student IDs.

Thirty rising second-year students will join Georgia State University Law Review for the 2017-18 term. Georgia State Law students become members of Law Review by invitation, based on exceptional academic standing and performance in a rigorous writing competition. The submitted academic papers are graded by the executive board.

University of North Georgia President Bonita Jacobs recognizes more than 1,300 students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average during the spring 2017 semester. The 25th annual Georgia Southern Fall 2016 Commencement Ceremony represented a momentous day as approximately 1,700 of Georgia's best and brightest undergraduate and graduate students received degrees from the University's eight colleges.
